Sir,
With reference to my despatch No.254 of the 16th July, I have the honour to inform you that on receipt of your

telegram of the 14th August in which you urged considerations of economy, I instructed Mr. Baker, the Manager of the Railway, care- fully to revise the scheme originally submitted, which was a com- prehensive one, and to exclude all works not imperatively required.

I enclose a plan illustrating the new laying out scheme drawn up by Mr. Baker. It involves the following programme
of works:-

(a).
The conversion of the present paint-shop into an engine-shed with accommodation for four locomotives, and the addition of an annexe for use as a paint-
shop.
(b). The erection of train-sheds to accommodate two traine
of eight coaches each.
(c). The removal of the existing store-house to a more
convenient site.
I attach a table showing the number of locomotives and coaching vehicles now in use or on order, the existing accommo- dation, the additional accommodation to be provided in accordance with the revised scheme, and for purposes of comparison, the additional accommodation to be provided in the original scheme.
